Drifting through Jurassic Park...

We had to keep our eyes on the changing scenery, to take our minds off the numbness of our bums after so many hours sitting on wooden benches no wider than the ones you used to get in P.E. at primary school.

The nature was broken up from time to time either by fishermen or the odd bunch of kids just messing around in and around the riverbank. After a while, scenery overload meant that most people sunk their heads into whatever book they were reading, which added to the overall chilled-ness of the journey.

There was one overnight stay (not on the boat though - which gave everyone a bit of respite from the heady diesel fumes. The village of Patbeng is ready for overnight travellers - cheap gueathouses and restaurants. The owner of ours was a friendly chap, quick to offer round his homemade whisky-and-honey moonshine out of an old Campari bottle.
