How to bath an elephant...

First, get him to the river. Then, get in the river with him. Take a hard-bristled brush and scrub away. When you are done, step away from the elephant as he gets up, sprays water all over you and walks off without so much of a thank you. That's a job well done!

The Elephant Nature Reserve about an hour north of Chiang Mai is the only place where tourists can interact with elephants who are unchained and who don't 'work for a living'.
