Dunedin literally means "south of Edinburgh"

So we decided to play a game of spot the similarities...and there are quite a few. All Edinburgh's main streets are found in Dunedin, the weather's pretty similar, there are loads of cheeky seagulls, and everyone has a clan and a tartan from way back.

The Otago Peninsula drive is gorgeous as it hugs the coast and winds its way through tiny fishing hamlets.

It ends up at conservation areas for the Royal Albatross, Yellow-Eyed Penguin, Blue Fairie Penguin and Fur Seal as well as several other bird species. We were able to observe Albatross chicks hanging out at the nest waiting for their folks to get back with regurgitated fish (yummy) for dinner. As they only come back every two to four days, we felt very lucky to spot one coming in, feeding his chick and heading out to sea again.
