A little piece of paradise

The Coromandel peninsula is pretty (rather than stunning or breath-taking). Not only are the towns very quaint, but the scenery is charming, especially around Coromandel (the town).

Beach hot pools

One of the main attractions is hot pools on the beach, another geothermal phenomenon. At low tide, groups of people dig holes in the beach, and the warm springs from below the beach bubble up into the little pools. So even in winter, you can sit in a hot pool on the beach. Did we? Of course not! (Who wants to get wet and sandy in the middle of winter!)
